Herbier (Herbal)

This series of six quilted textiles was created for the Chateauguay Foyer, a home for the elderly and infirm. Each leaf silhouette represents a tree that grows in the vicinity of the home.

It was common for women in the early 19th century to study the shapes of leaves in order to plan their quilts. With Herbier I followed their lead. In much of my work I am inspired both by plants in nature as well as those depicted in printed textiles.

Herbier was produced with support from the Secretariat for the Integration of Art in Architecture, Quebec.
